Intraperitoneal Pseudocyst Following Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Procedures

Abstract
Ventriculoperitoneal shunts have been used since 1905 for the treatment of hydrocephalus. The extracranial complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunts are classified into the mechanical ones and those secondary to intraperitoneal inflammatory reactions.
One of the example of the latter is intraperitoneal pseudocyst. When peritoneal adhesions form in the immediate vicinity of the tip of the catheter, cerbrospinal fluid may accumulate locally, and an intrape-l itoneal cystic encapsulation may develop.
We experienced such a case. So we are presenting a case of intraperitoneal CSF pseudocyst confirmed by laparotomy.
